The incredibly talented Nat O’Rourke from lifestyle brand, Sea Tribe, checked-in to SOUL of Gerringong with her family while on the South Coast of NSW.
After a 20-year career in retail and merchandising, Nat O’Rourke went out on her own to create one of the most beautiful online stores we know, Sea Tribe. A curated collection of coastal bohemian homewares and furniture, it’s a style that Nat loves and embraces. From textured cushions, throws and rugs to rattan furniture and leather ottomans, Sea Tribe fast became one of our favourite places to shop. Having spent the past few years establishing the store while being a mother to three, Nat took some well-deserved time at SOUL of Gerringong with her young family.
How did Sea Tribe come about?
After a career in retail and merchandising, I found my true passion was creating products that I love. But it wasn’t until after the birth of my third child that I realised I needed to do something from home. I also wanted to fulfil my creative passion for product design and to work in the only industry I’ve ever known – retail!
Sea Tribe was the result. I draw inspiration from coastal and bohemian styling. My products are simply an extension of what I love and look for when selecting special pieces to buy.
What is your style ethos, and where do you draw style inspiration from?
I have always loved coastal styling, and over recent years, the emergence of bohemian textures has also played a part in my inspiration. My brand is based around the style coastal bohemian, although I feel it also fits into many genres from scandi to classic to contemporary. My inspiration comes from global trends that use colours and textures that are true to my brand – neutral earthy tones, reminiscent of nature’s palette.
Who would be your style icon, and why?
The Instagram community is so inspiring! Some of my style icons are these everyday people with amazing style. On a more global scale, Amber Interiors always delivers amazing pieces and styling. In Australia, Villa Styling has a great eye for styling and photography.
What do you look for when on holiday?
A great holiday for me includes good food and wine, a comfortable bed (Soul has one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in!), and a variety of things to do in the area, like a beach, pool and interesting shops.
Favourite element at Soul, and why?
It’s too hard to pick just one! Honestly, the entire place is designed and decorated to perfection. It always helps when you stay somewhere that’s beautiful to look at. We enjoyed our time by the outdoor fire on our first night, the pool was a perfect place to hang out in during the day, but the bed was beyond amazing!
In three words, how would you describe Soul?
Beautiful. Relaxing. Quality
